I’m Conservative Councillor Wayne Ronayne and represent Christchurch ward. I was elected in May 2010 following 34 years former service in the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. I became mayor in 2014.
A family man, I have three sons. I run a yacht surveying business and have recently completed a Masters Degree in Leadership and Management, also at Portsmouth University.
I have a specific dislike of the word ‘Failure’, preferring instead to use ‘unsuccessful on this occasion’ so ‘work harder next time to ensure success!”.
I am a local School Governor and I also support the Gosport - Royan Twinning. I support my other councillor colleagues representative on the necessary boards required to maintain local policy and deliver strategy. I have a special interest in the aspiration of ‘The Big Society’ in an effort to examine how this concept can have benefit locally.
My main field of expertise is the development, leadership and management of ‘people’. This being gained from my long experience of maintaining and improving the moral and effectiveness of naval personnel. My current mission is to fully utilise the superb training and experience I gained as a servicemen to improve and maintain the quality of life for the people of Gosport in all areas of the community.
