Lee West Councillor
  • Borough Councillors

Councillor Stevyn Ricketts has proudly served as Councillor for Lee West Ward for nearly two years. During this time, he has worked diligently to represent residents, protect local services, and champion the interests of Lee-on-the-Solent.

Having lived in Lee-on-the-Solent since 2004, Stevyn is deeply connected to the community. He appreciates what makes Lee a special place, from the vibrant High Street with its independent shops, cafés, and businesses to the seafront promenade and shingle beach with stunning views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. He is passionate about ensuring that Lee remains a vibrant, safe, and attractive place to live, work, and visit.

Since his election, Stevyn has been committed to being an active, visible, and approachable ward councillor. He responds to residents’ concerns, reports local issues, supports community initiatives, and stands up for Lee in council meetings. Whether addressing environmental concerns, raising highway matters, challenging decisions that impact residents, or supporting local events and groups, Stevyn believes that effective representation means being present, listening,g and taking action.

Lee-on-the-Solent boasts fantastic facilities for residents of all ages, and Stevyn has consistently supported investment in these community assets. From the Splash Park on the seafront to parks, sports pitches, play areas and the beautiful Alver Valley Country Park, he recognises the importance of open spaces and leisure opportunities for health, wellbeing and community life. He continues to advocate for proper funding and maintenance of these valued facilities, along with allotments and green spaces.

Public service has always been central to Stevyn’s life. He served for 22 years as a Special Constable with Hampshire Constabulary, including with the Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team for Lee-on-the-Solent, retiring as a Special Inspector. This experience strengthened his commitment to community safety, partnership working, and practical problem-solving. Additionally, he spent over a decade serving on the Lee-on-the-Solent Community Centre Committee, including as Treasurer, supporting one of the area’s key community hubs.

With over 30 years of experience in local government, including 20 years as Head of Streetscene for Gosport Borough Council, Stevyn brings detailed knowledge of council operations and decision-making processes. This professional background enables him to scrutinise proposals effectively, challenge inefficiencies, and push for value-for-money services on behalf of residents.

Stevyn has been vocal in campaigning for fairer parking arrangements in Lee-on-the-Solent, including reducing parking charges and restoring more reasonable charging times. He also continues to advocate for high standards in grounds maintenance, street cleaning, and refuse collection, recognising that clean, well-maintained streets contribute directly to civic pride and quality of life.

Stevyn remains committed to being a strong local voice, supporting residents, standing up for local businesses, protecting community facilities, and ensuring that Lee-on-the-Solent continues to thrive. In May 2026, Stevyn became the chair of the Community and Environment board.

His focus is simple: practical action, visible representation, and delivering results for the community he is proud to call home.
