Cllr Marcus Murphy

Rowner & Holbrook Ward

Marcus is married to Jeanette and has four grown children who were all educated in local schools. Marcus and his family moved to Tichborne Way in 2000 and has lived in the Ward ever since. He is well known for his interest in community issues. Fit and active, he is a keen supporter of football and rugby. Marcus served in the Armed Forces for 22 years and  currently the Council’s Armed Forces Champion. Marcus is now employed as an engineer within the defence industry.

Marcus believes that the local residents should come first and the need for Rowner & Holbrook to continue to have a strong voice in the Town Hall is paramount. Marcus is a hardworking, down to earth Councillor, who gets results.

In Rowner and Holbrook Marcus Murphy has worked hard to deliver the new leisure centre, pub and a new hotel for local people. But it is not just the big jobs Marcus has worked on, it is also the minor jobs that make a difference. Work such as the new kerbs in Austerberry Way, Tichborne Way and Turner Avenue, the play areas in Rectory Close and Rowner Lane, restoring a bus shelter to Mansfield Road and supporting the views of local residents in planning matters. Regularly attending meetings, Marcus has worked hard for the people of Rowner and Holbrook.

Eight years ago you, the electors of Gosport, put the Conservatives back in control of Gosport Council after 20 years in opposition.  Over those six years we have set about delivering on the promises we made to you in 2010.  We started by reducing costs, improving efficiency and reducing bureaucracy. We reduced staff by 25% and management by 60%. We have also let new service contracts which will save council taxpayers £10million over fifteen years.

Locally Marcus believes it is right for the police to remain in the town centre. The Conservatives were the only group to support the move into the town hall after the independent police and crime commissioner closed Gosport’s police station.

The LibDem councillors again voted against the Budget, without putting forward any meaningful alternatives. Marcus believes this is the not right way and that opposition parties should not be playing politics on such an issue such as this.

Marcus believes the Conservative team on Gosport Borough Council can be proud of our achievements to date in putting our plans into action especially for the Rowner & Holbrook ward. In the past four years Rowner and Holbrook ward has seen a new leisure centre , hotel, play equipment, improvements to the Ice-rink and a reliable bus service, but we have so much more to do.

Working together we will continue to make Rowner and Holbrook a better place.
