Cllr Kathy Jones

Bridgemary South Ward Councillor
Mayor of Gosport

Kathy was born in Gosport, attended local schools and afterwards Portsmouth and Southampton Universities. She is happily married to Kevin and they have two grown up sons and four wonderful grandchildren; they have worked and lived in the Gosport area for almost all our lives.

Having been involved in running two businesses, Kev Jones and Kev Jones and Son, for in excess of 30 years Kathy enjoys dealing with people of all cultures and status. She also created a small enterprise to coach and motivate people to achieve their full potential by raising their self-esteem.

As an employer Kathy realises the benefits of teamwork for the good of the community. She served on the board of governors at Woodcot School and have been involved in various local funding raising tasks. She also has experience of running a local youth club. Since 2011 she have been working as a business coach on a freelance basis enabling many small businesses to expand. Kathy loves life, all kinds of music and sport and going dancing, when the opportunity arises.

In Bridgemary South Ward Kathy Jones and the Conservatives are working together to improve play areas in Leyland Park and protect our green spaces. Kathy is keen to improve facilities and help make the ward a better and safer place to live. Experienced as a school governor and running a youth club in the past she takes a keen interest in promoting opportunity for young people.

Six years ago you, the electors of Gosport, put the Conservatives back in control of Gosport Council after 20 years in opposition.  Over those six years we have set about delivering on the promises we made to you in 2010.  We started by reducing costs, improving efficiency and reducing bureaucracy. We reduced staff by 25% and management by 60%. We have also let new service contracts which will save council taxpayers £10million over fifteen years.

Locally Kathy believes it is right for the police to remain in the town centre. The Conservatives were the only group to support the move into the town hall after the independent police and crime Commissioner closed Gosport’s police station. UKIP, Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors voted against the move in the budget meeting in February. Kathy believes this is the right way forward and that opposition parties should not be playing politics on such a major issue such as this.

Kathy believes the Conservative team on Gosport Borough Council can be proud of their achievements to date in putting our plans into action especially for the Bridgemary South ward. In the past four years our area has seen many improvements such as a new leisure centre, hotel, play equipment and a reliable bus service, but we have so much more to do.
