Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage will present local graduates of the National Citizen Service scheme with certificates signed by the Prime Minister during a ceremony at Bridgemary School this evening.
The National Citizen Service is a programme aimed at 16-17 year olds which encourages them to get involved with their local communities and to cultivate essential life skills. As part of the scheme, participants spent two weeks away from home, working on their team building abilities, and participated in a group project to help their community.
Speaking after the ceremony, Caroline said:
"The National Citizen Service provides a tremendous opportunity for young people, both in Gosport and across the country, to develop skills which will be invaluable to them in the future. It is fantastic that so many students in Gosport have chosen to get involved with this programme and to give something back to their area.
I am a passionate supporter of volunteering, and it makes me very proud to hear about Gosport's young people taking time out to support causes they really care about. The graduates should be extremely proud of everything they have achieved."
In Gosport, the National Citizenship Service is coordinated by the Gosport School Sport Partnership. The scheme takes place three times a year, in the Easter, summer and Christmas school holidays.
