Local MP Caroline Dinenage welcomes the announcement that five new Artificial Intelligence medical centres are to open across the UK next year.
The Government has announced that new technology centres in Oxford, Coventry, Leeds, Glasgow and London will harness Artificial Intelligence in order to save lives. As part of the modern Industrial Strategy, the centres will use AI to speed up diagnosis and improve healthcare and treatments. The software will use digitise biopsies and scans to help early diagnosis, including cancer, and should free up more time for direct patient care.
Commenting on the announcement, Caroline said:
“Artificial Intelligence has the potential to revolutionise healthcare by saving lives and means that NHS clinicians can channel their time and resources into personalised treatment. With the increasing pressure that we are seeing placed on our precious National Healthcare Service, I am delighted that we are using innovative technology to improve patient outcomes and make sure every pound goes further. After the opening of these five centres, I hope that we can continue working to ensure that this pioneering technology can be used by the NHS across the country.”
