Drivers in Gosport could halve their fuel costs and cut their commuting time by car sharing, says local MP Caroline Dinenage.
As part of National Liftshare Week, Caroline is urging individuals and businesses to sign up to HantsCarShare to see how much time and money they could save.
The free website run by Hampshire County Council allows people across the South East to match up with other commuters on the same route to share the cost of journeys, with some users saving up to £2000 a year. Caroline has contacted major Gosport employers to encourage them to sign up, and took to the airwaves on Radio Wave 105 to urge individuals to do the same.
Caroline said:
“Record fuel prices and the chronic congestion on the A32 are hitting my constituents hard.”
“Car sharing with someone on your route is a great way to cut costs and take cars off the road – making your commute faster and cheaper. I’m urging businesses and individuals to make the most of Liftshare Week by signing up to car share today”.
Residents and businesses from across the Hampshire area can sign up to HantsCarShare at http://hants.liftshare.com/. It is estimated that sharing with two other people could get petrol prices down to just 46p a litre each – more than halving the cost of many people’s commute.
