Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage yesterday helped award a total of £28,000 to local charities at the HMS Sultan’s Charity Cheque Presentation alongside commanding officer Captain Trevor Gulley.
These funds were raised at the Sultan Summer Show, a hugely popular event that takes place in Gosport every year. At the show, a variety of exciting acts put on spectacular performances. This year, crowds enjoyed high adrenaline Motorcycle Display Teams and the more traditional Steam Fayre and Festival Circus as well as music, foods and rides. HMS Sultan are dedicated to putting the money raised from this event to good use throughout the community, supporting local charitable organisations.
This year, the Summer Show raised an amazing £28,000, which was divided up between a total of 39 groups and charities. Some examples of local recipients include First Gosport Scouts; Gosport Men’s Shed; the KIDS Family Centre Fareham and Gosport Partners through Pain.
Speaking after the presentation, Caroline said:
“I was so honoured to be invited by HMS Sultan to help Captain Gulley award cheques to local charities at HMS Sultan’s Charity Cheque Presentation today. The Sultan Summer Show, as well as providing a wonderful day out for local families, serves an amazing charitable purpose – delivering vital funds to support local charitable organisations.
These local charities are the bedrock of our local community, providing much-needed services and boosting community spirit and I know just how important this money is to help them continue their excellent work. I would like to take this opportunity to commend our voluntary organisations and all the team at HMS Sultan for making Gosport and Fareham such a wonderful place to live.”
