Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage today asked local people to get in touch and share their views on the Government’s plans to introduce plain cigarette packaging. The Government is set to hold a free vote on the issue of plain cigarette packaging before the next election. Supporters of the policy argue that it will help to cut the numbers of people smoking and reduce smoking related illness. Opponents believe that it could encourage the trade in fake cigarettes, costing billions of pounds in tax revenue while failing to reduce smoking rates.
Commenting, Caroline said “I always want to hear from my constituents about upcoming parliamentary business so that I can best represent their views in the House of Commons. This is a controversial issue, with good arguments on both sides and I would urge anyone with a strong view-point on this to fill in my online form.”
