Restoration works are set to begin on the Falklands Gardens fountain in Gosport next month, it has been confirmed.
The six week long project will cost £85,000 begins on October 26 and will see a one of the town’s most recognisable landmarks receive a new water recirculating system, new mechanical equipment and a refresh to the look of the fountain.
The improvements were approved by Gosport Borough Council in March 2026 and will be funded from the council’s Local Regeneration Fund.
While the work is being undertaken, parts of the Falklands Gardens and nearby walkways will be temporarily closed, but accessible alternative routes will be provided.
Councillor Stevyn Ricketts, Chair of the Community & Environment Board, said: “This investment will give the fountain at the heart of Falklands Gardens a new lease of life. By fully replacing its operational equipment and bringing it up to modern standards, we are safeguarding this important memorial so it can continue to honour those lost for generations to come.”
Cllr Paul Carter, Reform UK Gosport’s group leader, also welcomed the news the work is about to begin.
He said: “It is an absolute disgrace that the Falkland Gardens fountain was allowed to fall into such a state of disrepair by previous administration. For well over 18 months, Reform UK Gosport, alongside many of our veteran members, has repeatedly called for action to be taken to restore this important feature.
“That is why it is great to finally see work due to begin to bring the fountain back into operation. The Falkland Gardens is the jewel in the crown of our town. It is a place of great importance to Gosport and, above all, a place that commemorates the sacrifice made by our Falklands heroes.”
