Monday, 21 December, 2020

Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has welcomed the news that Hampshire Police are set to receive a maximum £21 million cash boost in 2021/22.

The force has already received £26.1 million in additional funding this year and have so far recruited 102 new police officers.

This new funding announcement is from the Home Secretary Priti Patel who has confirmed that forces across the country will receive up to £15.8 billion in 2021/22 to help them fight crime and fund more police recruits – an increase of £636 million on last year.

Gosport MP, Caroline Dinenage, commented:

“I know that many constituents across Gosport, Hill Head, Stubbington and Lee-on-the-Solent want to see our streets become safer, and more bobbies on the beat to lower crime levels and keep our children out of harm’s way.

“This new funding is fantastic news for the Gosport and Fareham police forces that do such a brilliant job, but need vital funding to help them carry out their work.”

It is part of the governments continuing commitment to honour its 2019 Manifesto promises, including providing over £400 million to recruit 20,00 extra police officers by 2023. The funding will be also be used to bolster counter-terrorism policing, including money for armed policing.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said:

“We have asked more of the police than ever before during the coronavirus pandemic–the British people and I are extremely grateful for their dedication.

“I am absolutely committed to giving the police the resources they need–this funding package delivers on that.

“It will allow us to continue to put more police on the streets, and reduce crime as we build back safer from the pandemic.”
