Figures Show Further Record Employment Levels

The number of people in work has reached the highest levels on record, with record numbers of women and disabled people employed.

Importantly, wages have also grown at their fastest pace in 11 years.

Statistics released this week have shown:

  • average weekly earnings have increased by 3.9 per cent compared to last year
  • 32.81 million are employed, up 3.76 million since 2010
  • the employment rate is at 76.1 per cent
  • youth employment has halved since 2010
  • 4.1 million disabled people are in work
  • 15.55 million women are in work

Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, commented:

"It is great to see how the Conservatives have helped people not only get work but also keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets to spend on themselves and their families.

"In Gosport, we still have work to do - unemployment is low but so is job density, there aren’t enough local jobs.  That’s why I continue to work with constituents, businesses and entrepreneurs to drive local growth and enterprise so more local residents can find employment in our fantastic area."
