Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has welcomed figures from the Office of National Statistics which show that the unemployment rate in her constituency is at its lowest point since before June 2010.
The unemployment rate has decreased from 3.2% in April 2013 to 2.1% in April 2014, with 533 people entering employment over this period. The youth unemployment rate also fell over the same period, down from 6.6% in April 2013 to 3.9% in April of this year.
Commenting on the promising figures, Caroline said:
"Yet again, data from the Office of National Statistics has shown that local people are succeeding in getting back on to the job ladder as our economy turns a corner. Thanks to supportive government policies and the excellent work of local employment organisations, people are overcoming some of the longstanding barriers to employment.
There is always more to be done, however, I am delighted that unemployment is at its lowest point in almost four years."
The national average unemployment rate currently stands at 6.8%.
