After months of campaigning local MP Caroline Dinenage welcomed the news that the Daedalus site has been selected as 1 of 10 new Enterprise Zones across the country.
The Daedalus Enterprise Zone bid from the Solent LEP fought off competition from 29 other bidders to be selected by the Treasury - news that will of course be warmly received throughout the entire region.
A delighted Caroline said “This is the culmination of a long and hard fought campaign to get this site the recognition that it deserves. I am hopeful that this news acts as a catalyst for economic growth that will have far-reaching benefits for the local area, as well as the region.”
Since her election last year, Caroline has worked tirelessly to promote Gosport as an excellent place to do business. In recent months she has shown Government Ministers from the Departments for BIS and Transport around the Daedalus site, held a debate on the need for greater Government investment in SME's in the South of England, particularly Gosport, and has relentlessly kept up the pressure with her Ministerial colleagues in Westminster.
Welcoming the announcement, Caroline added, “Having an Enterprise Zone in Gosport will boost growth, jobs and enterprise, and I am confident that lower taxes and reduced red tape will attract business.
By keeping power and profits within the local area our entire community will stand to benefit and I look forward to the Daedalus Enterprise Zone flourishing as a centre of aviation engineering and marine excellence in its own right.”
