Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has today welcomed Energy Minister, Kwasi Kwarteng, to the IFA2 (Interconnexion France-Angleterre 2) launch at Daedalus.

Caroline and the Minister toured this cutting edge National Grid facility, where they discussed the pivotal role that the Gosport Constituency will play in helping the UK reach its landmark ambition of net zero emissions by 2050.

The IFA2 is based in the Solent Enterprise Zone at Daedalus and is an electric interconnector cable between France and the United Kingdom. The site has the potential to power up to 1 million homes with zero-carbon power.

The project is key to helping the UK reach its target of net zero emissions by 2050. Already, the UK has cut carbon emissions by more than any other G7 country and around £2 billion has been invested in new, green polices to help us reach this goal.

Caroline commented:

“Very happy to welcome the Energy Minister to the IFA2 switch-on today. This site has the potential to power up to 1 million homes with zero-carbon power - a unique opportunity for the Gosport Constituency to play a huge part in the UK’s net-zero emissions target.”
