Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has welcomed news from the Office of National Statistics that unemployment in the Gosport area has reached its lowest point since before the General Election of May 2010.
Caroline has always endeavoured to boost the number of jobs and stimulate economic growth across the Gosport peninsula. She has worked hard on a number of development projects, including the Daedalus Enterprise Zone and the Bridging the Gap fund, and continues to collaborate with local organisations & businesses to help get more people into work.
Speaking after the data was published, Caroline said:
"Hearing that unemployment in Gosport has reached its lowest point in three and a half years is very good news. Nationally, the outlook is also positive as there are now more people in work than ever before. There is still more to be done, both in Gosport and across the UK, but these figures show that the British economy is turning a corner.
Getting your foot back on to the employment ladder can be a daunting task. Thanks to the support provided by organisations such as the Wheatsheaf Trust and the opportunities created by local businesses, I am delighted that local people are overcoming the barriers to employment.
Between August and September of this year, 101 more people in Gosport entered jobs, decreasing the current rate of unemployment to 2.6%, compared to the national average of 7.7%.
