Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage is urging local people to take advantage of the Gosport Heritage Open Days which are taking place across the area this weekend.
The series of events is once-a-year chance to discover architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities that bring Gosport's history and culture to life. In total, there will be 66 events taking place at sited including HMS Alliance, Fort Blockhouse, HMS Sultan and Haslar Royal Naval Cemetery.
This year, for the first time Royal Clarence Yard will be joining the line-up of sites involved. The former Bakery and Slaughterhouse will be open to the public (the first time the Slaughterhouse has been open for over ten years) and guided tours through the Yard will take place on all four days.
Speaking ahead of the events, Caroline said:
“Each year I look forward to the Heritage Open Days which offer local people a terrific insight into our area’s rich cultural and military history. We are so lucky to have such a wide range of notable historic sites on our doorstep and I would urge everyone looking for something to do this weekend to get involved with the Open Days.
I am looking forward to dropping into Royal Clarence Yard myself to take a look at the classic buses and HMS Sultan steam lorry on display.”
The Heritage Open Days are taking place from today, Thursday 10th September to Sunday 13th September. For a full programme of events and details of availability, visit: http://www.gosportheritage.co.uk/events-2015/find-an-event/.
