Caroline Encourages Constituents To Support Fairtrade Fortnight

Thursday, 18 February, 2021

For Fairtrade Fortnight (22nd February to 7th March) Gosport MP, Caroline Dinenage, is encouraging constituents to support Fairtrade products that help farmers across the globe fighting for better working conditions and a fair deal for their produce.

Usually, Caroline joins Gosport Fairtrade Action from their stall in the Gosport Town Hall, to tea parties and events for residents, to raise awareness about the benefits of buying Fairtrade and what work is being done at a local level.

This year, due to the pandemic, no physical events are taking place. Nonetheless, Caroline is still joining calls to support the Fairtrade movement. This year, the focus of Fairtrade Fortnight is helping farmers in the climate crisis. Poorly paid farmers are struggling to combat climate change while being disproportionately impacted by its consequences through floods, heatwaves and drought.

Caroline commented:
“It is a shame that the annual events for Fairtrade Fortnight cannot go ahead as planned given how important it is in promoting fair prices for commodities and a fair deal for farmers.

“But we can still get involved at a local and national level, through small actions such as buying Fairtrade stamped produce or joining the Gosport Fairtrade Action group online to learn more about tackling the climate crises. There are plenty of ways to continue supporting Fairtrade both on and offline.”

On Monday 22nd February at 6.30pm, Gosport Fairtrade Action is hosting an online event with Adam Gardner, Head of Campaigns at the Fairtrade Foundation, to invite residents to learn more about the impact of the climate crises on the world’s poorest producers.
