Gosport MP, Caroline Dinenage, is urging people to get involved in the third year of 'Older Persons Month' in Gosport this October.
An effort to celebrate maturity and encourage older residents to get 'out and about', Older Persons Month involves lots of events around Gosport and marks several special days, including the UN International Day of Older Persons, UK Older People's Day and Silver Sunday. Gosport Borough Council have worked closely with Gosport Older Persons Forum and local organisations and groups, to fill the whole month with events.
This includes the annual 'Joint 55+ Info Fest and Winter Warmth Event' which will take place on Friday 21 October at Thorngate Hall, with lots of information about a broad range of organisations, local services, social activities, help with keeping warm and well during the winter and fun interactive demonstrations. Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service will also be at the event to carry out electric blanket safety checks.
Speaking in support of Older Persons Month, Caroline says:
"I am so pleased that Gosport Borough Council is working to promote social engagement amongst the older generation and reduce loneliness. Loneliness affects many older people in our area and is a huge cause for concern and I am proud of the work that is taking place across Gosport to tackle this.
I am confident that these events will help people to feel that they are part of a strong and caring local community."
