Local MP Caroline Dinenage welcomed new figures which show that Conservatives in Government have doubled spending on new school places - including £89 million for school places in Hampshire. This is £66 million more than they received under the last Government.

CAROLINE WELCOMES SURPRISE £50 MILLION BOOST TO SKILLS BUDGET

Local MP Caroline Dinenage welcomed a surprise £50 million injection to the adult skills budget to help working adults improve their English and maths skills. Caroline has long campaigned on the issues of adult literacy and numeracy, and the last year has seen her co-founding the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Maths and Numeracy, helping to secure a Business Innovation & Skills Select Committee inquiry into adult literacy and numeracy issues in the UK, and even bringing the responsible Government Minister to the House of Commons Chamber to debate these issues.

Caroline Dinenage, MP for Gosport, is encouraging local schools to put on money lessons this June to give their pupils a head-start in financial education, before it becomes a compulsory part of the new National Curriculum in September. As a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Financial Education for Young People Caroline has long championed the cause in Westminster. The move comes in advance of this year's My Money Week (9 to 15 June), run by national financial education charity pfeg (Personal Finance Education Group).
